Woman filmed using rice cooker on high-speed train in China sparks online outrage, fears of safety risk to fellow passengers
A woman in China filmed cooking rice on a high-speed train has stirred both shock and amusement on mainland social media.
In a video taken by a passenger, the woman is shown sitting with her husband on a train with a rice cooker on a tray table in front of them. While talking with her husband, the woman uses a spoon to fill plastic bowls with cooked rice.
Passengers nearby look on in surprise and confusion as the couple, who seem unaware they are attracting attention, continue talking and eating.

The couple used an outlet commonly used to charge devices like mobile phones and laptops as a power source.
China Railway said using high-powered electrical appliances or potentially hazardous items such as rice cookers, hot-water bottles and kettles is banned on trains.
The story has gone viral on Douyin, with 24,000 comments left on the video.
One person said: “She dares to cook rice this time. Will she make a hotpot next time? An unbelievable woman.”
“It’s very dangerous. If everyone cooks, what would happen?” said another person.
“Is it possible that she brought a rice cooker with cooked rice?” asked a third.

Stories about bad behaviour on public transport in China regularly trend on mainland social media.
Last month, a man in northern China drew criticism after he caused a high-speed train from Jilin province to Beijing to slow down by smoking in the toilet.
Also in June, an elderly woman in southern China was involved in an altercation with a female passenger whose seat she had stolen on a flight, a video of which went viral.
